Microsoft said last week it plans to hire 4,000 to 5,000 new workers and to increase research spending by about 8 percent, to $6.9 billion per year. The company also said it has $49 billion lying around collecting interest. SO WHAT should Bill and Steve do with these wondrous resources? My suggestion: Start over. | ||

As soon as I read the abstract here, I knew it was a David Coursey opinion article. He must really be short on ideas. The implications of what he is suggesting--and the premises on which it is based--are laughable. If MS really were to start all over, I'd hope they'd shoot for something that's a lot more than just slightly beyond (if even that) what we already have. If Coursey wants them to make merely another Mac OS, why doesn't he just stick with the Mac that he has?
Interesting quote of the day: We need more of the OS--especially network setup and access controls--hidden under the hood, where users never have to see them. So people really don't want Linux, then? Surprising, then, the way your mag writes an article at least once per week about how Linux is an attractive option. Make up your mind. |
