Buy.com Launches First iTunes Competitor | |

In the wake of Apple's success with digital music downloads, hopeful competitors are stumbling over themselves to get a product out that can emulate and, presumably, surpass the iTunes Music Store. First up to bat is Buy.com's Buymusic.com, which opened its virtual doors this week. The Buymusic.com Web site offers customers a wider selection of music from all the major labels, cheaper prices, and the important ubiquity of Windows support, but it is also almost too visually similar to Apple's offering, raising issues of impropriety. Perhaps more alarming, the music on Buymusic.com is saddled with more restrictions than that offered by Apple. | ||

but to believe the media, you would think all of the upcoming "itune competitors" sprung up as a result of apple. Now, I've seen some computer apps built quickly... but c'mon. no one can seriously think that this buy.com offering or any of the others... were started as a result of itunes. No one codes that quickly, and gets the library that fast.
Its another case of the media loving apple... to the point of giving them credit for creating a new industry. and a year from now, the same sob story will be written where everyone came in and crowded them out. The reality is that apple has 100% control over their 100% proprietary hardware and software. they only made itunes for 2% of the market. What took them so long. Their job was infinitely smaller than what others are doing. |
