Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003, new PDAs coming June 23 | |

BOSTON - Microsoft will launch its Pocket PC 2003 operating system on June 23, and Gateway and Hewlett-Packard will announce new PDAs (personal digital assistants) on the same date, according to sources familiar with the companies' plans Tuesday. The new version of Pocket PC will come with improved capabilities for detecting and maintaining wireless network connections, and better performance. It will also be optimized for Intel's XScale processors, according to an industry analyst.

I would like to buy one as well. I like my Jornada 548, but I would surely like to be updated to the latest and greatest.
I would *assume* that PocketPC 2003 would be required by MS to be on all Dell Axim's when released?...maybe? |

But no new Pocket Word or ActiveSync. :(
I have to say that Pocket Word is a disappointment. As for ActiveSync, I can't be sure if it's something to do with my Toshiba e740 of ActiveSync, but it will drop the connection at least once per day. If 2003 works with the e740, though, it would be nice to test the wireless improvements... as it stands right now, wireless isn't very reliable. |

| # 3: Activesync 3.7 was just released about a month ago. Or are you looking for like an Activesync 4.0 full release? |

Wow, Coach, that's quite the list.
Can I add that I want one to fold out into a hover car too. Won't buy one till then. (Do you actually think half of what you say is feasible. That it's these things keeping PocketPC "almost good"? Wow.) |

| theCoach--the idea of the Pocket Money add-in (or standalone app?) to work with cash registers and to provide information like what breaks your budget, the product is cheaper elsewhere, etc., would make for an awesome app. Why don't you write it? |

I have a bar code scanner for mine, I use it to track prices at the stores when I am shopping:) Rather trivial, scan the code in once, enter a discription and price at which ever store i am at. Once the bar code is scanned. it is just a matter of updateing the price. Saves me money in the long run. because if I am at one grocery store and see something that I like, I can scan it in and compare the prices between the stores in town. will be even nicer when RFID becomes a reality in products and it would be a simple matter of scanning the rf tag from a distance though:) And if stores broadcast their prices in the store to devices on carts should be a simple matter of tapping into that. I also use the device alot on road trips with a GPS, and tracking different sites and the like. A address book of course. I did find more uses when I was working in a clean room though (paperless fab) so haveing the ability to write notes on a portable was nice. el |

Yes, all these things are feasible today... but are they feasible on a device that has very little processing power? No. I would rather Intel do to the PocketPC world what they recently did to the notebook world (with Centrino based notebooks). |
