The president of India added to a growing foreign-relations headache for Microsoft with a speech in which he advocated broader adoption of open-source software. In a speech during dedication ceremonies Wednesday for the country's new International Institute of Information Technology in the university city of Pune, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam recounted a conversation earlier this year with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. "We were discussing the future challenges in information technology, including the issues related to software security," Kalam said, according to a transcript of the speech. "I made a point that we look for open-source codes so that we can easily introduce the users built security algorithms. Our discussions became difficult, since our views were different." | ||

| India is a socialist country. I here that some of their best minds work 2 or 3 jobs, and donate some of their time at colleges because if they make too much money, their government taxes them to death. So what do you expect from a socialist? Capitalism? LOL |

| Maybe my information is a bit outdated. I worked for a company back in the early 80's, and an engineer that was my coworker was from Bombay. He told me that if he earned 40,000.00 a year, that his taxes would be 40,000.00 a year. He explained to me why he donated his time to teach college at the local university was to keep himself in a lower tax bracket. I haven't been in touch with him in over 10 years, and I guess a lot has changed. Please excuse my error. |

Looks like a progressive system, rates similar to US although not as many brackets and I don't know where the brackets fall on a cost of living scale.

| Sodablue, you calling me a Republican? LOL I am more of a Theocrat, with Yeshua Ha Mashiah at the helm. I do consider taxing to be wrong though. If your read the book of 1st Samuel, you will see this. Even Jesus said, "Of whom do the Kings of the Earth take custom?" and the answer was, "of strangers." Yet we now take custom of our own. Go figure... |
