Factor 5, in its secondary capacity as a developer of handy middleware for multiple platforms, today announced that it has developed an SDK for the implementation of DivX video on Xbox, in conjunction with DivX Networks. The Xbox adaptation of the popular MPEG-4 compliant video compression technology offers the video quality of a DVD in files as much 1/10 the size of MPEG-2.
The DivX for Xbox SDK supports pixel-shader technology to reduce CPU load, resolutions up to 1920 x 1080, and surface-mapped rendering -- i.e., using a DivX video as an animating texture. It also includes support for Factor 5's Vorbis audio compression and 5.1-channel sound.
