South Korean Group Sues Microsoft Over Slammer | |

The suit is the direct result of the havoc caused by the SQL Slammer worm in January. The worm infected thousands of machines all over the world running Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 software, but it hit South Korea particularly hard. Some ISPs in the country were knocked off-line for extended periods of time thanks to huge amounts of network traffic generated by the worm. Damage in the U.S. was mostly limited to smaller network outages, but at least one bank's ATM machines were affected, as was the 911 system in one locality. | ||

I think we should start suing lock manufacturers every time a house is broken into. Or perhaps the Window/Glass manufacturers. Because, had they made their glass stronger, it wouldn't have broke under the hammer.
And while we're at it, sue automobile manufacturers when cars are stolen. Or Suitcase manufacturers for not making their suitcase stick to the floor when a theif tries to pick it up. Obviously, this is a design flaw in suitcases and could easily be remedied, but the evil Suitcase manufacturers are to lazy and rich to worry about it! |

With piracy approaching 100% in the orient (in Korea software pirate shops are as numerous as Best Buys are here in the US), the first thing that Microsoft should do during the discovery process is ask the plaintiffs for their valid licenses of all operating system versions and applications. Watch, the Koreans run for cover.
