Microsoft Corp. (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people) said on Monday it has developed a next-generation personal computer with Hewlett-Packard Co. (nyse: MSFT - news - people) aimed at helping users who juggle phones calls, faxes, cell phones, e-mail, instant messaging and video conferencing as part of their jobs. Described as the Next Generation Enterprise Personal Computer and code-named "Athens," the concept PC is translucent hardware that sports a wide flat-panel display with a CD-ROM drive, camera and telephone handset, among other features. | ||

It makes me sad to see Microsoft in such disarray. Really, look at this piece of garbage.(http://www.tomshardware.com/business/20030506/WinHEC-04.html) It makes you wonder what their thinking."Hmmm..Apples got that huge display, that cube they had was oh so nifty, and isn't that power button on the keyboard so cool." I'm sorry but this athen's pc is lame. Its not even a tablet pc, and if it were a tablet pc being used as the monitor(I'd complain that the screen would be too small). There just isn't any synergy between a tablet pc and a full flatpanel monitor on your main machine.
What is Microsoft thinking? The Media Pc works in the home environment but its lacking in its full scale applications(Besides your TV, TIVO, DVD and Stero have you hooked it up to anything else? where's the e-home vision???) This athens pc is just a miserable copy of apple. [I'm not a MAC fan by any means, and that's what's getting to me its blantantly a copy] "opportunities that Microsoft is offering with this design" What opportunities??? An intregated camera, and a PDA holder?(I could have thought this up in my worse nightware because 1)Full realtime stream video conferencing doesn't exist so the camera is useless 2) I like resting my PDA on a hard service...like a desk... it can't fall out of the caddle) I don't want to bash Microsoft, but I'm seriously wondering what application you can see for this type of gizmo.
