Microsoft will announce the first release candidate for its small business edition of Windows Server 2003 in June, officials said at a meeting here with CRN. Microsoft's Small Business Server 2003, which will incorporate Windows Server 2003, Exchange 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services, is going to be promoted heavily for its ease-of-deployment capabilities and enhanced remote user features, officials said at the Windows Server 2003 launch in San Francisco on Thursday. | ||

| I work for a small non-profit that once ran on Small Business Server (4.5), but has since out-grown the 50 maximum user limit of SBS and now runs on Back Office Server 2000. I certainly hope that they plan to put out a version of Back Office Server 2003 in addition to SBS. |

| What is the price difference of SMS vs MSDN subscription? If the price is negligible then I would go with MSDN. Or am I missing something? |

Bernard_Marx - BackOffice is dead. Microsoft is no longer selling their servers that way. But that was always one of the questions with SBS... what happens when you outgrow it?
RedHook - You can't use MSDN in a production environment. matgarnz - Because Sharepoint can be used by non-technical people. If you want to play the cheap game. Why did you have him waste money on a Qube? Just cause it looks cool? You can buy a Linksys EFG80 for only $500 that would give him more file storage. |

that is very interesting. Let me see, I have 2 computers at work and 5 at home. Factor in the 25 other developers at work (and there home machines). Ok, I think that we have the 10 user license covered. No one adheres to that rule. Does your company? |

| sphbecker, WS2003 comes with MSDE (or whatever they call it now) and it starts to throttle its output when you have more than 5 connections. Not quite as nice as the developer edition of SQL Server, which is not throttled. |

I wish they would never have discontinued BackOffice.... :( The price of SQL Server alone was nearly the same as the entire BackOffice package.
I definitely think that ISA should be separated from SBS, though. Running ISA alongside anything else gets messy. |
