Korean Firms Protest Against Microsoft | |

South Korea's largest Internet portal, Daum Communications 35720.KQ, and 17 other software companies said on Thursday they would take joint action against the planned release of Microsoft Corp's MSFT.O Windows XP operating system. Windows XP, the latest version of Microsoft's flagship product, is scheduled for widespread retail release on October 25. "We are expressing deep concerns about Microsoft's attempt to disrupt the market by selling Windows XP bundled with a variety of application software," the companies said in a joint statement. "We officially demand it immediately stop such efforts." Their initiative follows a complaint filed earlier this month by Daum with the Korea Fair Trade Commission over the U.S. software giant's planned release of Windows XP. | ||

Why not #2? I don't use Media Player because I don't like how it works or it's interface. Instead I use Musicmatch, which I purchased.
But if all I wanted to do was occasionally play an MP3 or an AVI then Media Player is more than adequate. For most consumers, they don't need all of the features provided by these third party products. It isn't a level playing field, and it should not be. If you absolutely need the complicated functionality, then you'll be willing to pay the higher price. MS is in the courts because companies like AOL can't compete based on quality, so they instead sink a lot of money into political campaigns hoping to get the governments ear. I agree with #1, I'm tired of whiners like #2. |

MS also took care to this when they changed their policy and said OEMs can add whatever they want to XP, they just can't remove anything. I bought a Dell Laptop and it came with MusicMatch, so I dont see how this is a problem. 3rd party software is already being included with Microsoft software.
