Nearly six years have passed since Microsoft agreed to invest US$150 million in Apple Computer and continue developing Mac versions of its Office application suite for at least five years. In the intervening period, both companies have experienced many changes. Apple has transformed from a moribund entity whose doom was foretold by countless pundits into an innovative niche player -- the high-tech equivalent of a luxury carmaker. And Microsoft has weathered several years of antitrust litigation, maintaining its operating system and business application hegemony while simultaneously evolving into a dominant player in the nascent Web services space. | ||

Let's analyze what the article called Apple. An "innovative niche player".
First: innovative Not so sure about this one. They've certainly been innovative in the past... but for at least the past 5 years, Apple has done little more than make pretty cases and even prettier interfaces. The problem is, pretty != innovation. Second: niche If by niche, you mean incredibly small. If by niche you mean a company that is quickly losing market share. If by niche you mean almost (but not quite) irrelevant. Then, yes, Apple definitly has a niche. Be competitive. "My guess is that Apple users are probably extremely happy with Apple. " That's the problem. They market towards the existing userbase, rather than seeking to expand it. |

The spelling alone!
I'm pretty sure that the snippet "evolving into a dominant player in the nascent Web services space" is in reference to Microsoft and not Apple since the sentence actually starts, "And Microsoft." I'm appalled at how many of the kids now seem to confuse "loosing' and 'losing'. |

#7 - Hah... you're right. Guess I should stop writing posts when I'm only half awake.
I've corrected my mistakes. #4 - "They have a great OS, a great UI, and great innovative hardware (iMac and iPod). " Great OS? Arguable, but I'll give you that. Great UI? I don't think so. It's pretty, that's for sure... but that's where it ends. And why, exactly, are the iMac and iPod innovative? iMac is underpowered, overpriced, and offers nothing that hadn't been done before. iPod is more of the same.
