IBM, Microsoft bring XQuery standard a step closer | |

IBM and Microsoft will shortly deliver to the World Wide Web Consortium a suite of test programs featuring the XQuery standard for analyzing XML documents, IBM said in a statement Thursday. XQuery is a language for parsing and extracting information from XML documents or databases containing XML-tagged information. A standard method for querying hierarchical XML databases could boost their use, much as SQL became a powerful standard way of querying table-based data. The test suite is a series of programs that illustrate the features of the emerging standard, IBM said. | ||

What?!?! Microsoft... standards!?!?!
I thought all the nihilists said that MS doesn't support standards and doesn't innovate, etc. I thought they said that when MS pulled out of that other Web Service standards board that it proved that MS doesn't care about standards. But here, we see that MS is on a whole slew of standards boards in the industry, not to mention several in the W3C itself. |

| MS doesn't care about standards! only when the standards makes sense and is forward thinking. And when the standards body is actually a usefull tool and not a group of ABMers trying to slow things down. |
