Microsoft is about to make it easier for just about anyone to buy its low-cost Office suite designed for students and teachers. The company will modify the licensing terms for its teacher and student productivity suite when Office 2003 ships this summer. This is an apparent attempt to lower the cost of Office for consumers without actually repricing it and, thus, could spur greater adoption in the consumer market, say analysts. | ||

300,000 copies of Office XP for students & teachers
121,000 copies of Office XP standard Let's do the math... 300,000 * $149 = $44,700,000 121,000 * $299 = $36,179,000 ($299 figured by .25 * 479 + .75 * 239, figuring most were upgrades with a few new installs) I had a boss once who said "It's better to have a handful of nickels than a couple of dimes." Volume is the key, and if they open up the licensing to make this convenient for households they'll likely be selling 1-2 million a year. |
