Beta 2 of Office 2003, the upgrade to Office XP, due by midyear, will include a new feature called Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager, as well as the first incarnations of DRM (digital rights management) in the suite. Sources familiar with the product said Business Contact Manager, previously code-named Iris and aimed at the SMB market, will let users track clients, create accounts, generate product lists, and track sales and account leads. | ||

| CRM is aimed at mid-size companies; it requires Windows server and the cost of the app is much higher than Act or Goldmine, We consider it but we decided it wasn't feasible. Personally I would love to have something in the price range of Goldmine or Act but using the Outlook interface. |

monkeydog, recent versions of GoldMine do integrate with Outlook. They just don't integrate with Exchange at the server level (like MS CRM does), so there are things you can't do without a user being logged on and having both GoldMine and Outlook open at all times, and there are still more things you can't do without having email go to/from a specific user's mailbox. FrontRange was beta testing an Exchange integration module, but it was quietly dropped. I think they determined that it was beyond the ability of most mortals to install and configure it, and it was beyond the ability of their staff (which was being rapidly laid off) to support it.
MS CRM has a web interface, so you don't technically have to have Office to use MS CRM. To use the Outlook integration, you have to have Outlook, but Outlook is free with each Exchange Server CAL, so you can get Outlook that way. |
