After the announced sale of Connectix's Virtual product line to Microsoft (Virtual PC (VPC) for Mac, VPC for Windows, and Virtual Server), there has been no small amount of angst amongst Mac users concerning the fate of VPC for Mac. Questions about whether or not Microsoft would kill the Mac version of Virtual PC, or limit its usefulness by removing support for Linux, have been raised by a large number of TMO readers. | ||

| Perhaps I just don't understand the VM technology that well, but since Linux is an x86 OS, wouldn't any X86 emulator be able to run Linux? It seems to me, that if Microsoft were to remove any support from the X86 emu, they'd be removing support for their own OS... |

Yes, I haven't heard anyone express this concern. The concerns I have heard are: will they remove support for older versions of Windows (95, Me, NT, maybe even 2000 by the time it's an MS product) and will they still sell VPC on its own, without a Windows license included.
These two concerns are the only valid concerns for VPC Mac users I've seen to date... and they remain issues that I suspect MS is unwilling to address at this time and don't have an answer for yet either. But why is this posted anyway? Two sentences on NewsForge makes for an article? A reliable newsource? |
