When 'Good Enough' is Better | |

The "best" product doesn't always win since, given advantages of predatory pricing and clever marketing strategy, "good enough" is almost always good enough to carry the day. I'm talking, of course, about Microsoft, its software and its business practices, and if you're a fan of BeOS, OS/2 or another innovative software product that ended up mangled on the side of The Road Ahead, you've seen these sentiments expressed before and you've probably expressed them yourself. | ||

| Interesting theory, except both BeOS and OS/2 weren't even 'Good Enough', they were fundamentally flawed in so many ways. |

I love how these authors steal little tidbits of info from people, whether it's the truth or not, and then twist it around into something not nearly as good as the original...
hmm... I guess they fit in quite well with the linux "community" then... freakin hypocrits... |

| Actually, there is a grain or two of truth in here. Not every MS product is Good , some are not even good enough, they are not perfect as a software manufacturing company, sadly, it is a business fact that if MS comes up with something that just 'does the job' and a small company comes up with a better software yet it has to charge a bit to cover expenses and MS gives its product for free as it has the muscle for it, then the good enough MS product will probably take over the excellent product that costs money, it is simple economy, nothing against MS, but it does pose the fact that some of what we have in place as software from MS is just the good enough that had marketing behind. |

Except VHS was better than beta and digital watches were better than swiss, for the respective markets and consumer needs.
It all goes back to how you define best. If you're looking for a commuter car, a Honda Civic is a better choice than a Ford F250. But if you need something to haul bricks, the F250 is a better choice. The Civic is also a better car to someone with a moderate income than a Ferarri, but if you had unlimited funds and needed to go out racing... it doesn't matter up much rice you add to the Civic it ain't going as fast as a Ferrari. |
