They put the block popups back in at 7.01. But netscape still sucks even if it blocks popups. Until they ditch crappy xul and start using native widgets it will always suck.

IE Will probably never natively support pop-up blocking since:
A: It is a source of revenue for the web and if IE natively supported blocking then website companies would raise hell against MS. I personally don't believe that you should block pop-ups since it is what keeps most of the web free. Hell I even click on their adds every once and a while just to give the site some click-trus. Now if you want it simply to keep those pop-up storms from Porn sites than just quit going to porn sites :) B: Everybody would raise hell who provides/sells pop-up blockers since as soon as IE did so it would completely kill that small industry. MS has to be mindful of things like that because it would be excersizing their monopoly to some people. Just think if MS added their own CD-Burning into XP that was feature rich rather than add CD-Burning from a third party that had minimal performance/features... Man the world would stop right then and there and a whole new monopoly war would start. Other things fall into that category, Anti-Virus, firewall just to name a few. If they built in those technologies and they were feature rich they would have to battle the same as when they added IE into the OS. |

Yes, if Microsoft started blocking popups the ABMers would whine about it endlessly, accusing Microsoft of trying to destroy people's businesses. Oh, and not just the popup advertisers, but also the people who have now built nice little businesses selling popup blockers.
It's a no win situation. |
