Microsoft has been extremely successful, if not entirely sportsmanlike, in establishing a dominant hold over its core market. However, the company's ventures into new territory generally have had less stunningly positive outcomes. And when a software company starts to offer watches, one has to wonder if it is starting to lose sight of its core business. | ||

Actually, no they aren't. That was how Sony was able to take the market away from Nintendo, and Nintendo took it from Atari and so on and so forth. |

#3 your points are valid but that would leave MS as a hostage of that console manufacturer. And I am sure that they threaten to use Linux as leverage. Also MS sees the xbox as the gateway into the living room. MS has the full control of the hardware/software andn will drive the xbox in interesting directions. Why chance that to the discretion of a third party?
I am sure that once xbox has a strong enough foot hold that MS will farm it out or figure out a way to shift manufacturing cost onto another company (Dell or some other oem). |

Ummm.... no, makeing software is what made MS successful.... Microsoft didn't even enter the hardware market until somewhat recently. I think you need a history lesson. |
