I really, REALLY like the idea of this thing.
One of Microsoft's better technologies is it's Terminal Server/RDC computing platform. It's fast, efficient, and suprisingly non-bloated. I see only one thing wrong so far. The price. $999 is too much for a dumb terminal, even with an LCD, and that price is artificially inflated by the mandatory inclusion of a copy of Windows XP. I already have XP AND terminal servers running at home. I don't need to waste $100 plus on yet another copy of XP. TL |

I agree with you TechLarry, at this stage it might be more cost effective get a laptop and use the TS web client. But then again if the laptop is on the network you could just go straight out to the web. But that defeats the purpose of smart display.
In order for this thing to succeed it most be offered at a price that makes sense. And yes why should I buy another copy of XP? |

you are exactly right TL. The functionality really appeals to me, but I can't see paying more than a couple of hundred for the 10" display. I'm sure the raw materials cost more than that currently, but thats its "worth" to me personally.
Hopefully, the early adopter stage will speed along and the price will fall dramatically by next Christmas. |

Best Buy is selling HP laptops with 14" screens for $749. I just bought a laptop this past week, pretty damn nice one with all the bells and whistles for only about $1200.
Do have to question spending $999 for just this. :( |

I've played hundreds of hours of Diablo II and coded tens of thousands of lines of code (not to mention written thousands of AW posts) with my laptop on my lap. I've never found it too heavy or too hot. |

| I've got a Dell Inspiron. It's been on for the last 10 hours and it's only midly warm. This is my one and only laptop, so maybe it's a fluke and other laptops would be way too hot. |
