Microsoft Corp. executives have called the open-source software Linux a cancer. They even have described the increasingly popular operating system -- an alternative to Microsoft's proprietary Windows -- as un-American. But now they are hoping to attach a different word: costly. As businesses increasingly adopt Linux to run their computer servers, Microsoft is shifting the battleground from schoolyard insults to corporate notions of "business value." "There has been a lot of debate in the Linux space that has been focused on the emotion and focused on the technology," said Peter Houston, senior director of server strategy for Microsoft. | ||

I'd like to add that this article adds nothing new to the Linux/Windows debate. This has been said, what, a million times before? Nothing to see here, citizens, move on.
Bas, you must be retarded or something. A site named "ActiveWin" with a lot of pro-Windows people seems to shock you. I think you had too much eggnog last night. |

I don't know why I am even replying to this, but I would have no reason to post news just to make money, or create a Slashdot like community. I basically get nothing out of this (in terms of money or products), and the same goes for the other people who work here. This is just a hobby site (that we are proud of, and which has done well). We post news because either we think our readers want to know about it, or we think they should know (or at least have the opportunity to know) what is being said Windows (ActiveWin) or things that will affect Windows (a la Linux, AOL, Sun, etc).
Hope that answers your question, although I'm not sure you had a sincere one. ToddAW |

Try support.microsoft.com. Yeah, I know, it's kind of a hard to remember web site name, but it's generally the first place to look for that info. Microsoft sells support in a variety of ways, either in a ad-hoc per call fashion, or by way of third party groups like IBM Global Services. They also do Premier Support for larger corporations where you have a Microsoft person on site to assist with questions.(They're called a TAM... Technical Account Manager) Pricing varies anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands, depending on your level of need. I also don't understand why you are surprised OS Debugging is included, shouldn't that be expected? That's why you are talking to them, right? bas - It's clear you don't know what you are talking about. |

gg - Actually I think the $799 for the Redhat server is not too expensive. I actually suspect you're going to see more price hikes for Redhat, if they are ever going to turn their P/E ratio down from 800 range.
And I like being a sarcastic jackass, besides I think anybody who is going to claim they have made a critical analysis of Windows versus Linux should know something of Windows. :) |
