Businesses often lose their way when putting location information in their applications. They veer off course when plotting routes for delivery people or nailing down territories in a mass-market mailing. Now, they can get directions from Microsoft. The company on Thursday released an upgrade to its MapPoint .Net Web services, adding features and boosting the amount of available location data for both North American and European developers. | ||

MapPoint .NET rests on Microsoft's servers and is completely different than MapPoint 2002. MapPoint .NET is for commercial clients who need map functionality on thier website.
It's very expensive, but a lot of fun (I was on the initial beta). |

| Exactly, Mappoint 2002 can be used in conjunction with Office as an add-in but it is a completely independent program. Yes it is expensive but it is targeted to corporate use. |

| .NET is business. People in business sell services. People that need or want services buy them. Does it surprise anyone that a technology which is produced by a business has a price tag attached? |

Yes, Mappoint 2003 does not require one to have ms office (of any version) installed to function. The bich of this is now there getting into charging via transations instead of licensing the data\cd's... I have a strange suspition very few people will be contracting for this service.
