Microsoft is pleased to introduce new licensing options to address customer business needs and to complement the technical capabilities of our server products. This is part of a broad effort to improve the customer experience with licensing Microsoft software and our ongoing effort to make licensing more consistent, predictable, and flexible for our customers. These new options are designed to provide customers with an enhanced ability to license Microsoft server products in a consistent manner across our product line. The new options will be particularly beneficial to those who seek user-based licensing, those who would like to provide server access to their end-customers or partners, or those who run solutions that leverage multiple Microsoft server products. | ||

MS is attempting to sqeeze every penny out of everyone that they can. I wounder if i need a device cal for a OWA server to access data on a seprate box? or how about a central server that several other web servers are accessing the data from, or how about my backup server, which accesses all the server to backup the data on all the servers?
Next they are going to start charging for the use of MS Tcp stack. I normal agree with MS, but this is starting to get a little crazy, special since they are only listing TS builtin client for XP as vaild, yet the built in Win2k license is lost in the shuffle. Do we lose the 2 Admin TS licenses also per server? |

Bummer. Glad I'm not at my last job, where the lack of this stipulation on W2k Server saved us a bundle of money. |

Yeah more gobbly gook from MS's licensing department.. as if they needed anymore problems in this area.
What confusing mess. Would really be nice if they'd stop changing there figgin license terms every 18months. Why do I get the feeling they purposely try to confuse the shett of people so that they can claim non-compliance down the line.. agghh. The TS licensing thing though I believe does end some confustion..but of couse also generates some more revenue..shocker right. OWA btw is covered by your exch5.5 or 2k per seat license as I recall, if your talking about mobile device access as I recall you need the mobile somthing or other seat license. What there talking about here is user vs device for windows services access.. file\print etc. What I'm really interested in is the pricing levels for these things.. anyone know what the pricing will be for the .net2003 related stuff. |
