MS targets Linux defectors with 'special' price discounts | |

Savage discounts and easy payment terms available on Microsoft software, should you look like you're about to jump ship for Open Source? We all know that this kind of thing happens, but from what a Yankee Group analyst has been telling Newsfactor, this semi-ad hoc procedure has been formalised as part of a new 'Open Value' licensing programme, to be launched next year. It works like this, according to Yankee Group's Laura DiDio. If a Microsoft sales rep gets the impression that "there's a real threat of some pretty large numbers of defections to open source," they call control in order to get discount authorisation, and this can be up to 50 per cent. | ||

meep - Ok, you're new. Let me fill you in.
"If anything, it is more secure compared to the windows operating sysm." We've already proven that statement wrong this past year. Linux has had more vulnerabilities, and doesn't have security as part of it's overall design goals. "How in the world is linux more expensive than Windoze?" What is Windoze? "Now why do you say Linux sucks? " Why not? |

linuxhippie - Great. Then you should take your Linux and run with it.
Stop whining about Windows, and stop trying to convince the Government to pay for your choice. If Linux can compete in the free market, i say more power to them! |

linuxhippie - If the software is of general purpose, then the government should be buying it out of the private sector and not paying to write it's own. That includes web servers, word processors and so forth.
I do also believe the private sector should furnish software to the government at a substantially reduced cost. But Government should *NEVER* compete with the private sector, as long as the private sector is able to meet the needs. I also don't expect the Government to be opening up an automobile manufacturing plant any time soon, whereas obviously you think they should. |
