Microsoft Corp. says its upcoming Windows XP operating system, with its clean look and tight integration with the Internet, will make computing unbelievably easy for consumers. But rivals and privacy groups aren't so sure, complaining that the software favors Microsoft products and services and gives users little control over sensitive personal data. So with just a couple of weeks before Microsoft must ship the finished Windows XP code to computer makers so they can install it in time for the holidays, the company is making last-minute changes to quell those concerns. | ||

#7. As a software developer, this is what I see the Linux people doing right now. Copying "hot" commercial products. They aren't particularly successful at it.
Similarly speaking, Microsoft has not been entirely successful competing with Quicken, or Palm or any number of other companies. This only works in situations, like Netscape, where the original company had a pretty good idea but incredibly poor execution. |

Has anyone yet to come up with any good privacy argument against ACTIVATION? I have yet to hear one. It has been proven by several sites now that Activation only sends your product ID and one other number which I can't remember. It has nothing to do with you, there's no good way to match it back to your person, etc. Many people confuse Activation with REGISTRATION which are completely seperate. Activation is required, registration is not. It's either that, or people just love spreading anti-MS FUD. I guess it's the new fad. |
