Microsoft is aiming its new operating system for pen-based, "tablet" computing at the mainstream corporate market, but the first buyers are likely to be businesses with specific requirements. Although the pen-based computing concept and Microsoft's latest attempt at it get good marks, information technology managers, analysts and others in the industry say machines running the software giant's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition OS need to improve in function and come down in cost before tablet devices achieve broad-based popularity. | ||

The problem with these, as I see it, is that they are after "Corporate Money" and aren't paying attention to the market segment I think will get a kick out of these.
The home user segment. If I could buy one of these for $1000, I'd do it in a heartbeat. With 802.11b wireless access, and batteries that lasted 4 hours or more, and quick-charging capabilities, I'd never set this thing down. On the couch, in bed, cooking in the kitchen, lounging in the back yard, you name it and I'd have it with me. Just think how it could replace magazines in the 'Library' ! TL |

| Someone needs to hire TL as a usability tester. I can see it now - Listen up, Bill, being a knowledge worker is good and all, but I want to read the recipe for grandma's famous potatoe (I remembered the "e" Dan) while I'm cooking. |

| TL ... Yes you are right about the Tablet PC being targeted for corporate, but the home version of the Tablet PC is the SmartDisplay ...which has been delay until next year. |

hamper, just because it doesn't support your language, Sweedish, I'm assuming, doesn't mean it doesn't have good language support... that's ONE language, and seeing where as English is the most commonly used language in the world, that even if that's all it supported, it would still do very well... but it also supports Japanese (I believe), and some Chineese dialects, and many more.
I don't think I even know a single Sweed. |
