Microsoft apologizes for NY decals | |

Microsoft Corp. apologized to New York City for blanketing public property with hundreds of butterfly decals used to promote the company's new MSN 8 Internet service. "We apologize to the City of New York and the people of New York City," Yusuf Mehdi, the corporate vice president for MSN Personal services and business, said in a statement released Friday. "We made a mistake with the decals, and we take full responsibility for what happened," Mehdi said. "We are working with city officials to clean up the decals immediately." On Thursday, Microsoft plastered hundreds of butterfly decals, measuring 12 to 20 inches in width, on sidewalks, doorways, traffic signals and stop lights primarily in midtown. The city immediately demanded an end to the illegal guerrilla advertising campaign. City officials said they accepted Microsoft's apology. | ||

You know I never saw IBM apologize for the spray painting all that Linux graffiti.
I also just installed the Windows Media 9 beta, and the first thing it does is prompt you asking a whole series of questions regarding privacy and what data it will transmit and so forth. For thsoe really super paranoid people, it will disable the CD/DVD lookup feature even. |

I don't know. At least he recognizes it was childish. :)
Grrr... I think I've worn out the DVD-Rom drive on my computer. :( Having trouble reading music CDs. This post was edited by sodablue on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 17:57. |

| Alright, we can't stop editing, I find it very useful when I write comments at 4am in the morning to check them and edit them at 8am. However, I would like to see a feature that lets individual members alert activewin staff to members that need to be removed and IP addresses that need to be banned for inapproitate comments. It should be made public with a chart of number of # complaints(and what they were) per user and who complained against them with a limit of like 50 complaints. |

| #20, as it says in our terms of use, email any of the staff if you think there has been breach of the ToU. I'm not in the position to ban anyone, but I'm sure if there are repeated complaints the perpetrator will be banned. |

beeyp - I see no noticeable difference in time.
The slashdot home page transfers about 85K of information. Activewin is about 140K. I think both are on the high side, especially the activewin one, but I have a 1Mbps DSL line. Another difference is that it took 32 requests to grab the activewin.com page, and only 19 to grab slashdot.(each image initiates a seperate request) The slashdot site is cached by a front end server, you'll notice this when their database crashes(about once a week) as information will stop being refreshed, and you can't dig into any of the articles to read comments. |

The thing with junkmail is it can't be enforced outside the US, which, I'd say, is where a great majority of it comes from.
Kinda like how California has an anti-spam law (spam as in e-mail, not the "food"), but in order to enforce the law, the spam has to originate in Calif. and be sent to someone in Calif. |
