The PDA market surged from 1996 to 1999, culminating in $3.25 billion of sales in 2000, according to Dutch investment bank ABN AMRO. But the market stalled in 2001, only incrementally expanding. A down economy and glut of device makers has not held out high hopes for a return to the halcyon days of the late 90s. Now, Microsoft is set to unveil its Tablet PC on Nov. 7, aiming to capture the mass market with a tablet boasting a notebook-sized screen and Microsoft's much-hyped pen technology. "I'm already using a Tablet as my everyday computer," Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said at last year's Comdex show. "Within five years it will be the most popular form of PC sold in America." | ||

I know my business will as well as one of my clients
After reading reviews when the product comes out my client is buying 3 of them for their shop/production managers. These guys are constantly up and about managing workflow and tracking jobs as they are produced and finished. Being able to just carry their computer around like their clipboard the currently have will allow them to interact with the tracking systems etc without being at a desk. I think this is where the Tablet PC will be used quite well. Any worker who is very rarely at their desk will be able to use this to get more work done using a wireless network. They had tried a PDA at my clients but it was simply too small and hard to use to get what they needed done. We have already "tested" what it would be like to carry one around and use it as much as we can and it seems like it will work great for this application. We are getting one as soon as they come out to do a trial run and if all goes well, which I think it will, we will have another 3 on order soon after. The only thing I can see as a problem is being able to have it as a notebook on your desk and, at the same time, have it connected to a monitor. I don't know if this is what it is designed to do but it is what alot of people I have interviewed have asked about. They want to replace their notebook while the are in a phone conversation but still be able to access Excel spreadsheets etc using the keyboard w/o having to move it around and doc it etc. Time will tell but I think this is going to be a sweet product for those who are up and about most of their day. |

| We've decided to buy a single tablet pc and put it in a heavily-used conference room. It will be a dedicated minutes-taking pc. We thought this would be a unique way to give lots of users the chance to touch one. |
