Microsoft finds marketing outlet in Kazaa | |

In early September, Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates staged a Hollywood gala to impress the music and movie industries with his company's latest software for digital music and video, Windows Media 9. A few weeks later, Microsoft started showing off Windows Media 9 to an audience reviled by the entertainment industry: the Kazaa file-sharing network, where users routinely copy digital songs, films and software for free. Microsoft has picked up the tab to distribute at least two companies' promotional videos on Kazaa in the Windows Media 9 format, representatives of those companies say. The videos not only show off the improved picture quality of Microsoft's latest technology, they also help distribute it -- when Kazaa users download and play either video, their Microsoft media player software is automatically upgraded to Windows Media 9. | ||

I so wish I was on the inside. :-)
One of the reasons I like MS so much is that they are often the only company that shares my vision of where tech should go. Often when I think of something, MS isn't to far off the mark, or too far behind in implementing it. |

We (or at least, I) just try to stay current with what's going on. I watch all the keynotes I can, and read a lot of MS news, and infer where they are going with the tech, often by wondering how I would implement things. I have been on some betas, and that's why I initially thought LH Alpha to be a fake, but I can only dream of being an MS employee. Many times it just takes a bit of common sense or a bit of imagination (along with the facts) to figure out the overall picture. I often wonder why I haven't become a tech journalist so at least there would be one more of the few that actually spread the truth. Bob, here is an example: There was a blurb in PC Magazine or Computer Shopper a while back about two companies with similar technology that allows for the projection of a keyboard onto any surface which you can use to type normally to enter information into computers. I predict that in a few years (maybe a years time if not too expensive), you'll see this tech integrated into a PocketPC and/or MS Smartphone as well as devices from other companies. Even though this is third party tech, naturally ABMers will say MS stole it from say, Palm, if Palm implements it first. |

The keyboard projection thing sounds somewhat like a technology being developed called XWEB. It's a university project somewhere. If I can remember where I found it, I'll post a link.
I was joking about you being an insider. Sure would be nice for us if you were though. |
