Windows Desktop Product Life Cycle Support and Availability Policies for Consumers | |

Product life-cycle policies provide advanced notification of planned changes in product availability and support. Under the Microsoft® Windows® Desktop Product Life-Cycle Guidelines (published in February 2001), Microsoft planned to make Windows desktop operating system licenses available for purchase for a minimum of three years and assisted support offerings available for four years after general availability. During these periods, Windows desktop product availability and assisted support would move through the Product Life-Cycle Phases identified below. Under these new guidelines the "latest generation" of Windows desktop operating system licenses will be available for purchase for a minimum of four years and assisted support offerings available for up to seven years after general availability. However, during these periods, Windows desktop product assisted support will move through a modified set of Product Life-Cycle Phases identified below. | ||

| Kennedy, every time I read about the problems that people have (or had) with Windows ME I am amazed. I installed it (an upgrade from Win98) as soon as I got it (the promotional step-up version in the blue box) and never, repeat, never had any problems with it. It remained on my system until XP was available and then I formatted, and installed XP. Either the people who had problems were not doing something right, or I was. Either way, I think ME got a bum wrap. |

WinME was so bad that I even had problems with it, and I never installed or used it! :)
I don't know, I guess I just generally regard the whole Win9x lineup as being pretty bad. |

| Anyone who has been compitent with the rest of the 9x line should have had issues with ME. Since many people did, I'd say that if nothing else, it is a usability bug on Microsoft's part. |

| While personally I never had any problem with ME I know of a lot of people who were driven crazy by ME. I agree that Win95 was a turning point after Win 3. line but believe that Win98 introduced many improvement over 95, probably 98 SE was the best of the 9. line. |

Mr Dee, just got my acceptance in today... and I didn't even apply :)
BTW... I beta tested WinMe, while it didn have it's issues while in beta, I thought it was a tremendous step forward from Win98 and Win98SE. |
