Microsoft is prepping a version of MSN Messenger with new features that will be available exclusively to paying subscribers of the MSN 8 online service. The Redmond, Wash.-based company plans to release the new messaging client, MSN Messenger 5, simultaneously with the launch of MSN 8, which could happen as early as October. AOL Time Warner's America Online unit expects to release version 8 of its online service software sometime the same month. AOL unveiled the latest update for its popular AOL Instant Messenger product, version 5, last week. | ||

Now we should start to see a bunch of people beginning to wonder why they can't do certain things their friends and family can do with what they believe is the same Messenger client. | I would like to use Trillian if it LOOKED EXACTLY like MSN/Windows Messenger and operated the EXACT same but included the ability to talk to the other clients. I am very comfortable with MSN/Windows Messenger as is. I am running the beta 5 of Messenger (downloaded from a website) and I am already comfortable with that. |

I'm so sick of people promoting Trillian, saying it's better.... a simple fact is, it sucks for ANYTHING except if you just want to run one basic IM client that connects to all the other major ones. Other than that, it's a resource hog, it doesn't conform to ANY Windows UI standard, it's slow, etc... |

Anyone know if in the new Messengers we'll finally see the ability to customize status messages???
Total curiosity here and desperate hope that they implement a long needed and to be quite frank, feature they should have had from version 1. |
