Microsoft CEO sees rough ride in Europe | |

Steve Ballmer, chief executive of U.S. software giant Microsoft, said conditions in Europe were "rough" and would remain so until the telecommunications and financial services industries recovered, the FT.com has said. "Those industries have been hit hard and until we see a stabilisation and growth it's fair to say that things will be a little rough on the spending side," Ballmer, who is visiting Europe, was quoted on Sunday as telling the Financial Times. Ballmer is scheduled to give a presentation in Vienna on Monday morning. Although Microsoft has been hit by the industry's general malaise, and in particular the slowdown in PC sales, it still managed to achieve a 10 percent increase in sales in the year to June 2002 and promised to increase its research and development spending by 20 percent to $5.2 billion in 2003, the FT said. | ||

Inherently more secure? Lol! I guess you haven't been reading the bug reports on lately. How man *nix exploits have there been this year? You guessed it. More for *nix than for Microsoft Windows.
What I'd like to know is what makes you think that anyone anywhere would really take Apple seriously in the enterprise server market. So far I think Apple has less server market share than it has desktop marketshare. Oh my! Mozilla probably has a higher desktop marketshare than Apple does in the server market. So, anyway, let's see the evidence that major companies are investigating Apple products for enterprise servers. There are loads of companies that are investigating and already integrating their existing solutions with Windows servers. |

| Perhaps you can give me evidence of a single corporate OS X migration? I've heard of migrations to Windows 2000 professional and server. I've heard of migrations to Windows XP. I've even heard of Linux server migrations. I've never heard or seen or even imagined Apple in the enterprise. I don't think anyone else has either. Neither SQL Server, Oracle, nor DB2 runs on an Apple OS. What would the enterprise do with an Apple server? |

| That's a great idea, zonko! I could accomplish the same goal (and with a much lower price tag) if I went to the candy store and bought a bad of lolly pops. I can put them in coffee cups and spread them around the server rooms for decoration. |

Whoops. You got me on the Oracle one nom. Oracle must have been so excited about their OS X support that they were sure it didn't get posted where anyone might see it. Indeed searching on oracle.com for OS X didn't even turn up any articles that mentioned OS X.

LOL at the thought of these telecoms moving toward OS X. Man, that is quite an imagination you have there nomdlev.
Personally, I'm using OS X as the reason to end Mac support at my company. It provides the perfect opportunity for a nice clean break. No more Macs... every sysadmins dream. |
