AMD told reporters yesterday that two of the most eagerly anticipated processors on the PC horizon will be ... anticipated some more.
The next two successors to the company's current Athlon XP desktop CPU have both been rescheduled or pushed back three months on AMD's roadmap. The "Barton" core, which doubles the chip's Level 2 cache to 512K, will ship in the first quarter of 2003 instead of toward the end of 2002 -- the delay, according to AMD senior branding associate John Crank, to boost Barton's bus speed from 266MHz to 333MHz.
