Any news on what .NET Framework 2.0 (what is its codename) will contain? The System.IO namespace, I imagine will be changed somwhat.
For .NET and Office integration is Microsoft going to create a Microsoft.Office namespace to let developers code against Office? or just allow Office apps to host .NET assemblies in a somewhat similar manner to them being containers for COM components currently? |

Well,
There is only the strongly implied rumors. But Generics will be in. Which will bring a significant change to the BCL and other libraries. But will probably be implemented the way that it is in Rotor with Genie, meaning a new namespace for generics involved changes. Updates to the various languages. C# will see the biggest change in the release (mostly involved with the support for gernerics). C++ should complete its ansi compliance if it doesn't get finsihed in everett. Visual Basic.net is suppose to see more improved movement tools from vb6 to vb.net, and even VBA to vb.net script. Not entirely sure how the Office namespace will be implemented. as I don't believe that the full implemenation of Trinity will be in Whidby(the code name for .net framework 2.0 and vs.net for Yukon) I do know that there will be alot of work even in Office 11 to imlement some framework support for a scripting language (which may or may not be JITTED) Performance tweaks. as it will be a high level language support for a Enterprise level system. I am sure that several of the SDK' in beta that have managed code componets will be rolled into the framework also. The Speech SDK, tablet PC sdk, dx9 etc. Most of framework 2.0 will be support for Yukon and embedded scripts and what is needed to support that initiative though. El |
