A malicious Win-XP Help Center request can easily and silently delete the contents of any directory on your machine, we've discovered. A good writeup in English can be found here, thanks to Mike at Speculation.org who did some tinkering after noticing a tip on a BBS. The earliest mention I've found comes from VSAntivirus, but the page, unfortunately, is en español. Whether they were the first to discover it or not I can't tell but there are some handy screen shots in their bulletin. | ||

This issue was exposed and covered in detail on Monday nights airing of "The Screen Savers" on TechTV.
The were, I believe, the first to publicly display the secondary way of disabling this threat. MS has known about it for 11 weeks. Hats off to Leo Laporte for bringing out the truth. TL |

| I'm not exposed. I tried running several exploits for this yesterday. What is the Q number for this problem? That way we can verify where the fix is. |

| I looked through all the security bulletins in SP1, but I can't find this one. I have no doubt that SP1 fixed it (since I'm not vulnerable), but I'd like to read the bulletin also. |

I do not believe there is any official Microsoft documentation on this, which is very, very odd since they've known about it for 11 weeks.
