Terrorist suspect in Hotmail row | |

A man defending himself against a terrorist charge connected with the 11 September attacks is having difficulty proving his case, as the FBI can't track down his Hotmail account. According to the Washington Post, Zacarias Moussaoui needs the email records from his xdesertman@hotmail.com account to back up his alibi about flying lessons he took in Minnesota. But FBI officers claim that they can't find the account and have a certificate from Hotmail to prove it. Hotmail's recently introduced policy of deleting all information in an account that has been dormant for 30 days, and its habit of recycling the user name after 90 days of inactivity, could be an explanation for its apparent non-existence. | ||

| You know, there's a reason most corporations hang on to email for periods of time after an employee leaves. And this is a great example of why Hotmail may wish to reconsider their position on the matter. Perhaps compressing and archiving inactive accounts for a year afterwards? Who knows what the appropriate response is, but this clearly is not the best situation. |

peipas - True, but I'm not certain that it matters anyway.
Even if he has email, he would need to produce the real people as witnesses to confirm that they did write the email, so that they can be questioned and so forth. As such, if he has witnesses who can confirm he was not involved, then he shouldn't have a problem. But like I said, I think his witnesses died on 9/11. He's already admitted being associated with the conspiracy. He's trying to claim that since he was not there on 9/11 he isn't really guilty. He doesn't understand western culture, specifically our legal systems. |
