Thanks Dave: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 has a new component called Set Program Access and Defaults, developed to satisfy requirements in Sections H.1 and H.2 of the proposed antitrust settlement. A similar component will be in Windows XP Service Pack 1. As per the settlement, this tool is to "allow end users … and OEMs … to enable or remove access" to Microsoft's Web browser, e-mail, media player, instant messaging and Java virtual machine software, as well as choose third-party alternates. | ||

bob670, do you mean Outlook Express? If you do, I'd like you to direct me to listings of its security vulnerabilities. If not, well, Outlook is an application in Office and really has nothing to do with a service pack.
Messenger and Movie Maker are not included in Windows 2000, so they have little to do with a discussion about Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. In general it would be a very foolish thing to remove Internet Explorer from Windows simply because it is the rendering engine of the Windows shell. Secondly it is used by hundreds of software applications both from Microsoft and from 3rd parties. How many execs would be happy if their admin removed Internet Explorer from their workstations, and suddely QuickBooks stopped working. It seems that you like to attack Microsoft. It doesn't seem that you attack them out of logic, but rather out of emotion. |

| Who's the troll? You make baseless attacks on a company. I retort with facts. You attack my character. As I said it seems that you attack out of emotion and not out of logic. If you'd like to answer my question about referring to Outlook Express or if you'd like to discuss any of the points of my post, please respond. I don't do trolling, I like dealing with facts and having reasonable discussions. |
