This morning, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced a settlement with Microsoft regarding consumer-privacy violations in the Microsoft .NET Passport service. The FTC says that the company made several misrepresentations about Passport's security, the amount of personal information collected from users, and how much control parents have over their children's online personal information. Microsoft also faces similar charges in Europe.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but is it really that big of a deal? I mean, your not paying for it or anything. Better late than never, I guess.

Although I might generally agree with you Todd and bin, if AW plans to make money from this site, then they need to know what the viewers think of the site. If they don't get feedback, they won't know how to improve the product to meet consumer desires. Internet courtesy (if there is such a thing) would state that SMG should use the "Contact Us" link to give feedback, but, again, if AW wants this site to be a money maker, they must accept and respond to (by changing the site) customer feedback.

#5...thanks for the backup.
[rant mode on]
To the rest of you who absolutely overreacted. I'm not one of those people who lambast web sites for any reason I can pull out of my butt. I simply made a post that it was an old post in the thought that maybe they somehow overlooked the date it was posted AND I could have sworn this was already posted here once. I simply thought it was overlooked. I was not attacking this site for ANY reason at all. It simply seemed "out of step" for AW to post something that old and thought it was an honest mistake. So, #2, no it doesn't matter, but I was simply providing some feedback. I was not attacking your web site, nor trying to embarass this web site. If this is the kind of reaction I'll get from your web site, I very well might stop visiting.
I like this web site and I see an enormous amount of people use this forum to constantly bitch about something on this web site. I, for one, was not bitching about the post. So, you people need to get a life and stop overreacting and looking for a reason to moan and grip. [rant mode off]

SMG, I certainly didn't mean to attack you, I was just asking if it really mattered. We try very hard to keep up to date but every now and then an article or two slip through. I'm sure Byron checked if it has previously been posted before he posted it, and the original article was posted the on the eighth, but we never posted the update (at least from the researching I did).
BobSmith - We’ve never tried to make a profit off of this site. The only place we ask for money (besides our advertisers) is the PayPal donation thing, and that is only to help pay for our line.
I really don't want to argue with anyone about this, and I apologize if I seamed to be attacking anyone.

Toddy, if I understand correctly, advertisers pay per hit or per impression. Hits and impressions come from visitors to the site. If visitors stop visiting the site, your advertising revenue decreases. So you have to keep the visitors happy, to keep the advertising revenue flowing. Am I incorrect in thinking this?

Bob, first of all, don't call me 'Toddy.' You are correct in your thoughts, but the point is, this site is first and for most a hobby site. Yes, we want to pay for our line (of course) but the driving force behind this site is NOT making money, it is a huge passion the staff has for Microsoft news and products.
Also, I don't understand how my comment would deter someone from visiting the site. I have tried to be nice and courteous throughout all of the post in this thread. I was sincerely asking why it mattered, not trying to be a smart ass. I have repeatedly apologized if I offended someone. This is my last post in this thread. If you must continue this conversation, please email me (todd@activewin.com).
