Xbox's Euro Boss Sandy Duncan has confirmed that Microsoft's uberconsole will NOT hit European shelves until 2002 - though the Japanese and US markets will still get a launch in time for next Xmas.
Boringly enough, this body blow is down to the building of a new manufacturing plant in Hungary. The Hungarian plant will supply the European market, while the up-and-running Mexican facility will now only service lucky US and Japanese punters.
Speaking to trade paper MCV Duncan said "The demand for Xbox is so high that we have revised our forecasts and we feel that we can ship many more units this way. We were always going to build a factory in Europe, but we've brought it forward slightly. The downside is that the launch will miss Christmas 2001 in Europe. But this is not a problem - the main thing is that we announce a launch date and stick to it."
Not a problem? Then why do we feel so gutted?
