Wireless local area networks (WLANs) may be hot in the small home office and consumer markets, but some issues -- primarily security -- are slowing their adoption by the enterprise. Experts say the fears being fed by reports of "sniffing" and drive-by wireless hacking are legitimate. However, a WLAN can deliver the convenience and effectiveness of a wireless network and still be secure -- using a virtual private network (VPN), for example. "[Security] definitely rates number one as the top reason, next to price, as to why people are rethinking WLANs," Yankee Group analyst Sarah Kim told Wireless NewsFactor. "It depends on the environment, but WLAN security is a big concern." | ||
