If you could sum up Microsoft in one word for 2010, it would have to be patents. The software giant spent a considerable amount of time and money duking it out with others over patents, with a notable case being a landmark injunction over the use of XML in the company's Word software. That case--worth nearly $300 million to I4i, the company that won--heads back to court as a Supreme Court appeal next year.
