Microsoft has a heckuva job ahead of it in building an application ecosystem for Windows Phone 7 before its launch by the holidays.

The software company, whose Windows Mobile platform slid into the market-share abyss last year, has already said WinMo 6.5 apps won't work on the upcoming platform. So developers have just a handful of months to create a healthy offering of WinPhone apps.
