States suing Microsoft for damaging competition accused the company on Thursday of using the Windows operating system desktop as a means to thwart rivals and maintain control over the technology industry. Chris Jones, a Microsoft vice president in charge of Windows, testified that penalties sought by the states "would substantially undermine" Microsoft's ability to ensure that new versions of Windows are consistent with previous ones and easy to use. But under questioning from a lawyer for the states, Jones said that many decisions Microsoft makes about Windows' appearance are driven by business motives, not technology. | ||
