Nvidia to introduce nForce 220 series chipsets in April | |

Nvidia is to add to its core logic chipset portfolio with the release of the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)-based nForce 220 series in April. In targeting the low-end market, first-tier board makers like Asustek Computer and Micro-Star International (MSI) are already showing strong interest in promoting new boards. The nForce 220 series comprises two chipsets, the nForce 220 and the nForce 220-D, supporting SDRAM and DDR266 architectures, respectively. The chipset line lacks Nvidia’s exclusive twin bank memory configuration – a feature that allowed more bandwidth for data transmission through the 128-bit memory controller. While this is a diversion from the company’s other core logic chipsets, the nForce 220 series continues to share many of the same features – such as an integrated graphics core and the 5.1 Dolby digital system – but are cheaper and will thus attract more clients to develop related boards. | ||
