At its fair stand AVM shows Bluetooth in combination with DSL. The Internet access via DSL connection is put at seven subscribers' disposal wirelessly.
With the combination of its two products Produkte Fritz!Card DSL and BlueFritz! AVM wants to demonstrate the feasibility and the real benefit of DSL over Bluetooth. In this way the comfort of a wireless connection shall be combined with the speed of a DSL Internet access.
For that purpose AVM uses the Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP), the Bluetooth transfer protocol for Ethernet frames. The PPPoE data of DSL users become enclosed into Ethernet frames and at the Access Point they get transfered to DSL. The Bluetooth protocol L2CAP (Logical Link and Control Adaption Protocol) is securing the data transfer on the radio way. According to AVM during the DSL/Bluetooth demonstration the world's smallest Bluetooth client BlueFritz! USB was used.
