Microsoft will release the newest version of its most popular Windows and Office products later this year. The products will be called Windows XP and Office XP, the company said in a statement. "We believe that this is a step in the direction of software rental, where versions are going to be on-demand and you won't go out and buy shrink-wrapped packages," Neil MacDonald, vice president and Microsoft analyst at Gartner, told NewsFactor Network. The XP stands for experience: "Symbolizing the rich and extended user experience Windows and Office can offer by embracing Web services that span a broad range of devices," Microsoft said. | ||
