New Plug-In for ISPs Detects Gaming Traffic
Time: 11:59 EST/16:59 GMT | News Source: TeamXbox.com | Posted By: Brian Kvalheim

Packeteer, Inc., a global leader in WAN Application Optimization, introduced today a new gaming detection plug-in for its PacketShaper product family that enables Internet Service Providers to identify and control or prevent "recreational traffic" on their wide area network. Immediately downloadable from the Packeteer web site, the new plug-in detects the most popular Internet gaming applications currently being downloaded and controls bandwidth allocated to traffic designated as "recreational." You can think of this new plug-in as the WAN version of the D-Link GameFuel technologies, which gives online games precedence for bandwidth over all other Internet applications but at a LAN level, that is within your network.
