The tool uses a Forrester proprietary framework for financial analysis, incorporated into a Microsoft Excel–based tool comprised of questions a Microsoft sales representative can utilize to obtain customer-specific data for the calculations of Return on Investment (ROI). Forrester Research has provided defaults for these questions; Microsoft customers do not have to have the answers to all of the questions in order to obtain a reasonable estimate of the ROI of Software Assurance for their particular company.
