Microsoft proposes to settle N.C. lawsuit | |

The Associated Press reports that Microsoft Corp. has agreed to set up an $89 million fund to buy computer technology for poor N.C. schools and reimburse some customers to settle a class-action, antitrust lawsuit in the state. The settlement would cover customers who bought computers with Microsoft's operating systems and office software in North Carolina from Dec. 9, 1995 to Dec. 31, 2002. The proposed settlement was made public Friday in Raleigh before Judge Ben Tennille. He asked the lawyers to return for another hearing later this year when he will consider preliminary approval. He wants to hear what the state Education Department thinks of the plan. | ||
