New Line Home Entertainment has officially announced The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The 2-disc DVD, featuring the theatrical cut of the film, will street on August 26th with a retail price of $29.95. Available in anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) and pan & scan versions, the set will include Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, "On the Set: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," "Return to Middle-earth documentaries" (eight featurettes looking at the people and places in Middle-earth), Sean Astin's short film "The Long and Short of It," a documentary on the making of the short film, "Gollum's Song" music video by Emiliana Torrini, previews of the "Return of the King" video game, a look at the upcoming Special Extended DVD edition of The Two Towers, and a 10-minute behind-the-scenes sneak preview of the third installment in the trilogy, The Return of the King.
But the real deal comes a few months later: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Special Extended DVD Edition will street on November 18th. This monster 4-disc set, a shoo-in for 2003's DVD of the year, will feature the 43-minute longer cut of the film in anamorphic widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS-ES 6.1 audio. If you got last year's The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition set, then you know what we're in for extras-wise.
