InterVideo Tabbed by Microsoft to Port Windows Media to Linux | |

InterVideo, Inc. announced today that Microsoft has chosen the company as a provider of its Windows Media Technology for Linux-based consumer electronics. Under the agreement InterVideo is licensed to take the components of the Windows Media Format, port them over to Linux and provide them to manufacturers who are interested in running Windows Media Technology on Linux-based consumer devices such as set-top boxes, personal video recorders and other hybrid multimedia devices. Linux is quickly becoming the platform of choice for consumer electronics, or CE, manufacturers of cable, Internet and satellite set-top boxes that are looking to add PVR (personal video recording) and DVD functionality. Currently, InterVideo offers embedded Linux versions of its popular DVD and DVR PC software for consumer electronics manufacturers. Under the agreement with Microsoft, the company will now be able to offer support for Windows Media Technology on these devices as well. | ||
