Microsoft Judge Gets Proposal for February Start
Time: 12:43 EST/17:43 GMT | News Source: Reuters | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Government antitrust enforcers on Thursday proposed to start remedy hearings against Microsoft Corp. in early February, but the company said it was too soon to establish a firm schedule. In a joint status report filed with U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, the two sides agreed on some procedural matters, but differed on how quickly the case should be scheduled going forward. U.S. Justice Department and 18 states suing Microsoft urged that the remedy hearings "commence on or about Feb. 4, 2002" and that each side be limited to 40 hours of testimony. Microsoft, on the other hand, insisted it would be premature to set a specific schedule until the government decides how sweeping its proposed remedies against the company will be.
